Good Times Ahead

Talking about the bridal shower last week got me thinking about another very important wedding related event. The bachelorette party! Ranging anywhere from mild to wild, it gives all the ladies (especially the bride) a chance to let their hair down. If you find yourself in charge of planning a bachelorette party, here are a few ideas to get you started.

Set up a margarita station around this margarita accent lamp. Like moths to a flame, guests will gather around the glow to gossip and drink. Serve up southwestern-style margaritas that'll knock them off their feet (in a good way). The Great Margarita Book has 85 tantalizing recipes to choose from. You can't go wrong!

Once everyone's had a chance to wet their whistles, break out the Naughty Charades. You and your friends will be doubled over in laughter at the sight of each other acting out racy slang terms like Booty Call, Bump and Grind, or Bun in the Oven.

And what's a bachelorette party without naughty gifts to make the bride-to-be blush? See how she reacts to laugh-out-loud items like flavored body pens, the candy bra and g-string (no longer an innocent treat from our childhood!) or the barely there naughty knot lingerie. Tell you what, the bride's cheeks will definitely flush when she's hanging upside down from her new stripper pole that comes with a DVD to show you how to pole dance like a pro. Guaranteed to be THE gift of the evening!

Just remember…what happens at the party, stays at the party.

Bridal Shower Solutions

I received a call a few days ago from a friend. She's her cousin's matron of honor and the cousin was starting to become a little too particular over the details of the bridal shower (of all things!).

They had all the main details hammered out, but my friend wanted to hear if I had any suggestions to add. (I'm kind of known for being the go-to gal for party and gift ideas, you know). As she was describing the menu to me, I immediately thought of several recommendations. Since she's planning on having several different types of finger foods, I told her about our gourmet bowl makers. You can make all kinds of edible bowls with these molds. I told her to try serving shrimp cocktail in a frozen ice ring. It looks so classy! Another favorite of mine is the berry-filled shortcake with a scoop of ice cream on top! Yummmmmmm.

Instead of a traditional cake for dessert, she was thinking cupcakes, an idea that I am in love with. I'm going to loan her my copy of "Hello, Cupcake!" which has the neatest and most adorable cupcakes recipes. And they're actually pretty simple to make, something I really appreciate given how clumsy I can be when I attempt to actually USE my kitchen.

On the practical side, I suggested a dessert tower to display the cupcakes. And, since they'll be eating outdoors, enjoying the view from my friend's waterfront home, a salad bar like this one would be really useful. It'll blend in with the surrounding decorations and keep the food chilled.

Have fun ladies…

A Salute To Dads

Father's Day…24 hours for dads to kick up their feet, set aside the "honey-do" list, and be waited on hand and foot. Well, in theory, anyway. Here's a quick gift guide to get the dads in your life properly outfitted for their special day.

For the new dads: Handling dirty diapers, teething, and other growing pains is hard work but they know it's worth it. Cause yep, that kid is a chip off the old block. Give him the chance to humbly boast about his genes with the cute Me and Mini Me shirts.

For the outdoorsy, BBQ-loving dads: They feel most at home in front of the grill, carefully crafting the perfect steak or rack of ribs. The Griller apron has front pockets to store his latest grilling gadgets and, for Father's Day at least, he can point to his chest ("If you can't stand the heat, go get me a beer") anytime he needs someone to bring him another brewski.

For the tool-loving dad: Whether he's made it his fortress of solitude, a guy's only hangout, or just spends a lot of time tinkering with his toys, he'll appreciate the Garage Time t-shirt. He can slip it on to let everyone know he's ready for a little "me-time."

For the "man's man" type of dad: You know, the type of guy who scorns the very idea of a band-aid. He may seem like a tough cookie on the outside, but actually has a big soft heart (especially for his children) on the inside. A John Wayne coffee mug shows that a man's got to do what a man's got to do!

For any dad who secretly pictures himself saving the day (cape and tights optional), the Super Dad t-shirt will make him puff out his chest with pride!

A Star In The Making

I was ready for my close-up…though I never got it. About a month ago, thanks to a friend of mine, I had the really neat experience of being an extra for an independent movie that was filmed in the area. I was amazed at how long it takes to shoot just one scene! I'm not sure if I'll actually end up seeing myself on the big screen, but every celebrity has to start somewhere, right?

Even a household name like fitness personality Richard Simmons, who's still going strong after twenty years, caught his big media break with an appearance on a reality TV show! And this was long before the likes of The Real World or Survivor series. That appearance helped him land a role on General Hospital and from there…the world! Relive the Sweatin' to the Oldies era with his 5-DVD anniversary set that'll get you movin' and shakin' to some fun tunes while listening to Richard's inspiring banter.

Television also has the ability to create "stars" out of products, such as the As Seen On TV items. I've already mentioned the produce-prolonging merits of Debbie Meyer Green Bags™ in a previous post. And we just added the Debbie Meyer Cheese and Cold Cut Bags™. It really is amazing how these bags keep food fresh and edible — long after you'd normally throw that unrecognizable science project in the fridge away!

I'll let you in a secret. I don't have a green thumb. If anything, I have a brown thumb, because that's what color my plants turn despite my best efforts. My biggest problem is that I forget to water them completely. Or I overcompensate and drown them. Aqua Globes™ should save my plants from further torture. Plus, I like how the hand blown colored glass fits in with the other stuff around my house.

Oh, but this is just a taste of what we offer. If you do a search for "As Seen On TV" from The Lighter Side home page, you'll find much more, like foot pads that draw toxins out of your body or putty that can seal leaks instantly.

Remember, Reflect and Honor

I know many people are looking forward to Memorial Day weekend (myself included), but did you know Armed Forces Day is this Saturday the 17th? it's a day dedicated to the men and women who serve in the military. Just thinking about all the people who have pledged to protect our country has me feeling very proud and thankful, especially as I think of the potential danger they live with day in and out. Our patriotic guardian angel throw can be a source of comfort for family members of servicemen and women who are currently serving overseas.

But there's no need to wait to show your appreciation. You can do it anytime. Our sharp-looking Army, Marines, Air Force, and Navy t-shirts, sure to catch anyone's eye, are a great way to show support ANY day of the year! I gave one to a friend of mine who is a retired Marine and he loves wearing it when he goes out and about.

Memorial Day tends to signal the start of many summer weekend BBQs. Sometimes seating runs unexpectedly short, so it's always handy to have a chair of your own on hand! Keep one of our Army or Marines fold-up chairs in your trunk and you'll never be without a patriotic place to sit. They're also a thoughtful (and very useful) gift for veterans!

On a slightly more serious note, while Memorial Day is a day of family gatherings and picnics, it's also a day of remembrance for those who died in our nation's service. A special and unique way to honor a family member or friend who gave the ultimate sacrifice is with the comforting sounds made by a memorial wind chime. The pewter chime clapper can be personalized for a beautiful and sentimental tribute.

Spring Sports Roundup

I'm planning on attending a Tampa Bay Rays game this weekend and have "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" stuck in my head. The Lighter Side® has been located in Bradenton, Florida since 1986. One of the perks of living in this area, aside from the (usually) nice weather, is that many major league baseball teams come down here for spring training during the winter. Currently the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds call the local area home for spring training, with the New York Yankees a straight shot up the road. Though I hear the 2007 World Champion Boston Red Sox are exploring the idea of moving their spring training operations from Fort Myers to Sarasota!

Red Sox fans should check out our 2007 World Series baseball. It's "autographed" with the replicated signatures of the Boston Red Sox players from that winning team. The 2008 MLB® team baseballs are similar in that they feature the simulated autographs of the current team roster and are neat, affordable collectibles.

For die-hard fans that dream of being part of the team, our Major League Baseball art print helps fuel their fantasy. Personalized for free, they'll get to see their name on one of the jerseys hanging among the other players' in the team's locker room. Just choose their favorite team!

The nice weather we're enjoying also means more opportunities for other outdoor sports, like golfing. My brother is such an avid golfer. In fact, I'm sure he's out on the greens now, putting away. I like to tee up with him every now and then. It's led to many hilarious brother/sister bonding moments. One time, when he wasn't looking, I switched out his regulation ball with this trick golf ball. If you could have seen his face when I used the remote to make the ball spin in place on the tee — right as he swung back to drive! I was banned from golfing with him for awhile, but it was totally worth it. It's a favorite story of mine to bring up at family gatherings!

Pomp And Circumstance

Ah, the spring air brings to mind blooming flowers, spring showers…and graduation ceremonies. My high school ceremony was held in a hot gymnasium (before the modern days of A/C) while my college graduation ceremony was held outdoors. Fortunately, it was a nice day with no rain in sight. Though the graduating class walked away with diplomas and scorching sunburns! With both high school and college graduations looming, I wanted to share my picks of gifts for the soon-to-be graduate in your life.

My first pick may surprise you, but it is just so cool. It's a "101 Things To Do With Ramen Noodles" recipe book. I lived on ramen and mac & cheese while I hit the books and pulled all-nighters, so this book is perfect for college-bound students as well as recent college grads suddenly finding themselves out in the "real world." Prepare to be amazed at what delicious meals they can easily (and cheaply) make with the simple ramen noodle!

My next three picks are each personalized mementos of this special life event. There is the adorable plush bear in his graduation cap and gown that will bear (how could I not throw that pun in there?) the graduate's first name and year. The graduation pillow and throw can be personalized with the graduate's full name, year of graduation, and name of school. Pillow and throw will come in handy for those power naps between college classes!

It doesn't matter if they graduated from public, private or Ivy-league schools. You can still tease the new grad's sense of achievement with the tongue-in-cheek Paper or Plastic T-shirt. They'll need a good sense of humor out there in that crazy world of ours!

My Mother, My Hero

Pop quiz! Bet you didn't see this coming.

Who helped raise her 8 (yes, EIGHT) younger siblings, even though it meant leaving high school early?

Who saw to it that her daughter got to experience opportunities that she never had?

Who did it all without losing her fabulous sense of humor?

The answer, of course, is my mother! Because of her, I got to play on the boys' basketball team in high school. That was something unheard of back then! (Okay, I'll give you a hint. It was back in the ‘70s. Whether it was early, mid, or late ‘70s, you'll just have to guess). To help put me through college, my mom designed and sewed Barbie clothes and sold the outfits on the weekends. And while it may have been easy to be bitter over lost opportunities, she never was. I've always found her sense of humor and take on life inspirational.

Honor the special moms in your life with Mother's Day gifts that have The Lighter Side touch. Sweet, thoughtful, and sure to bring a smile to her face. Here are five ideas to get you started.
Personalized gifts top the list! There's just something extra-special about seeing your loved ones' names and knowing the thought and time put into the selection of the gift.

Personalized We Love Photo Frame.
Personalized Our Special Tee.
Personalized Top Reasons Tee.

Earth Day 2008

Earth Day 2008 is Tuesday, April 22nd, and it's getting a lot of press this year as America's environmental awareness continues to grow. Just think how quickly buzzwords like "carbon-neutral," "biodiesel," and "EcoMoms" are entering our daily vocabulary. To honor this special day, here's a Lighter Side-style tribute to green living (we've always been cheerleaders for "natural" gas).

Is the only green you see in your kitchen the mold growing on your produce? Gross! Instead of seeing that food go to waste, try using a food-saving produce bag. Green Bags™ keep your fruits and vegetables fresh 10 times longer than regular methods of storage. Plus, they are reusable and use a 100% non-toxic and all-natural mineral to prolong the life of your produce.
Kids (and adults) learn green lingo as they play this fun and unique Earthopoly game. Players learn about the environment as they travel the board collecting carbon credits to trade for clean air. What's really neat is how earth-friendly the game itself is. It's made with recyclable paper and soy-based ink, the tokens are organic and even the plastic shrink-wrap used in the packing is completely biodegradable!

Toss on a cute tee (like our Conserve Energy T-shirt) and help raise eco-awareness. I've found that getting my husband to think greener is easier when I appeal to his funny bone. Which is why I gave him the Give A Toot, Don't Pollute tee as an early Earth Day gift. He's already assured me he won't have any problems giving a toot!

Birthday Party Hijinx

One of my favorite sayings is that while we may have to grow old, we don't have to grow up. One of my friends turned a Very Important Age over the weekend, and, being the good group of pals that we are, we planned a special day of torment for her.

Some of my favorite highlights of the day:

1.) Decorating the “chair of honor” with this cupcake chair cover, which had actually been used by another woman a few weeks earlier for her daughter's birthday. We all agreed it was a great tongue-in-cheek way to remind the birthday "girl" that she wasn't exactly a girl anymore!

2.) The outrageous toasts made to the long-gone memory of her 21st birthday. Then we chased shots of Bailey's mint chocolate served in iced shot glasses (made using this rubber shot glass mold) with one-liners like "So what was the name of your first boyfriend?" and "Was there even a legal drinking age back then?"

3.) Her reaction to the very sincere gift we gave her. After opening the usual gag gifts, we surprised her with a photo throw. We chose a snapshot of all of us taken at a special event a few months prior. I think we all got a little choked up as she held the tapestry throw up and said it was one of the most memorable gifts she'd ever gotten.

So, ultimately, how did my friend handle all the good-natured teasing? As we chowed down on a giant cupcake that fed all of us, cracking more age-inappropriate jokes, she laughed along and said in her best Wicked Witch voice, "Just you wait. I'll get you my pretties, and your little egos too!"

Betty Boop™ Series Part Four: Don't Call It a Comeback, She's Been Here For Years

Betty's mix of cartoon sensuality and wide-eyed innocence has made her an unforgettable figure. During an era when many of her contemporary cartoon film stars have faded out of sight, Betty Boop remains implanted in the hearts of her fans. Not only that, this original Queen of Cartoons continues to attract new fans of all ages across the world.

Entertainment Weekly has this great quote about Betty Boop: "Though Betty bowed out as a headliner in 1939, her popularity remains as intact as her boop-oop-a-doop. Maybe the appeal lies in her sassy independence, in the fact that she's the only female cartoon character who's not a foil for a male. Call it fatale feminism." Whatever it is, Betty clearly has a winning formula. She's everywhere you look!

In honor of Betty's continued status as a pop culture icon, I'll raise a toast and cheer her on to many more boop-oop-a-doop years. Raise your own toast to the international glamour star with these Betty Boop Paris-theme wine glasses. An exclusive collectible you'll only find here at The Lighter Side.

Remember a few weeks ago when I mentioned that we had some new Betty Boop items to debut? I'd like to point your attention to the new fleece Betty Boop fairy robe. It is super soft and feels luxurious. Just the thing you'll want to slip into to anytime you need a little pampering!

That wraps up our Betty Boop series. Hope you enjoyed it!

Betty Boop™ Series Part Three: Betty’s Posse

While Betty Boop has always been the main attraction, she had a little help along the way. Here’s a quick look at Betty’s supporting cast members.

We met Bimbo last week, where we learned how Betty, very innocently, stole his spotlight. You could never accuse Bimbo of holding a grudge though. This upright, talking dog played along as Betty’s loyal companion, adoring her as much as ever.

Brought out of retirement in 1931, Koko the clown joined Betty and Bimbo in their wacky and crazy adventures. He was just as likely to be helping Betty out of trouble as he was unintentionally getting her into trouble!

Due to a policy shift in the governing film guidelines of the day, Betty’s cartoon series moved away from silly adult antics and toward more kid-friendly themes. Bimbo and Koko bid fond farewells to their friend and stepped aside to make way for two new supporting characters.

Pudgy, Betty’s cute puppy, was introduced in “Betty Boop’s Little Pal” in 1934. Pudgy was forever getting into mischief, though it wasn’t always his fault! In the end, if Pudgy was feeling blue, Betty would sing to put a smile back on his face.

If Betty had a problem, she would go see Grampy, a loveable, eccentric inventor. Grampy would put on his thinking cap (which was literally a cap with a light bulb on it) and find interesting new ways to use common household items. His solutions may have been unconventional, but they got the job done!

Each of Betty’s friends and sidekicks have their own unique charm. It’s hard for me to pick a favorite. But Pudgy is definitely one cute pup! Just look at him dancing on the keys of this baby grand piano trinket box that plays “I Just Wanna Be Loved By You.” Can his cuteness compare to this exquisite Baby Betty Boop doll? Her adorable hand painted features make her a treasured collectible for Betty fans and doll lovers alike.

Betty Boop™ Series Part Two: Betty's Rags To Riches Story

Take a step into the time machine with me and head back to 1930. The Roaring Twenties may have ended but many of the trends were still going strong, like the popularity of jazz music and the fashion styling of the flappers. Picture shorter hemlines, bobbed haircuts, and sassy independent attitudes (all fads that are in vogue today!).

The pretty, wide-eyed girl we're familiar with made her debut into this scene as…a dog! Yes, that's right. Betty's creators, Fleischer Studios, already had a headlining star for their Talkartoon series. Betty, who didn't have a name yet, was simply introduced as a companion for Bimbo. She may have had a dog nose and floppy dog ears but her curvy feminine appeal could not be denied. This dog-like character made several more appearances as Bimbo's girlfriend, evolving a little more each time.

By the time of her appearance in "Any Rags" in January 1932, Betty had ditched the dog nose and turned her long ears into the classy hoops. Plus, she was finally properly named. And is it any wonder that Betty's baby face and womanly charms made her more popular than Bimbo? (We'll see what happens to Bimbo in the next post.) The rising starlet was given her own cartoon film series in August of 1932 that ran for seven years! She also had her own comic strip, which centered around adventures as an actress.

Boop-mania was in full swing by 1934 with Boop memorabilia appearing in stores. You could find her image on things like tea sets, cards, watches and more. You can still find some of these vintage pieces if you search hard enough. I like our modern Betty roses wristwatch which is perfect for everyone from teens to grandmothers who like to Boop-Oop-A-Doop!

Betty has come a long way from her humble beginnings. Carry around this rich-looking Betty Boop bag and be inspired to start your own rags-to-riches story!

Betty Boop™ Series Part One: I've Got Boop Envy

Another daylight saving time adjustment has come and gone. I managed to remember to update all my clocks successfully, including my Betty Boop talking alarm clock. I'm never happy about losing an hour of sleep, but hearing Betty's little-girl voice wish me "Good Morning" is so cute that I can't help but wake up with a smile.

Though she certainly doesn't look it, this vivacious vixen has a long history — she's been around for almost 80 years! Could someone point me to the Fountain of Youth that she must be drinking from? Over the next few weeks, we'll take sneak peeks into Betty's past. We'll find out how she got her start, who she hung around with, what makes her so endearing and more.

It's always an honor to have such a glamorous American icon like Betty Boop grace our catalog pages and website. Not only that, but we're also able to carry many exclusive Boop collectibles. These are things you won't be able to find anywhere else. And as it happens, I have several new Boop items sitting on my desk that will be appearing in our next catalog and on the web very soon. Maybe I'll introduce one to you during this Boop Series.

Easter Tidings

Well, where is the time going this year? Did you realize that March 23rd marks the earliest Easter since 1913? It won't be this early again until 2160!

Mr. Cottontail better bundle up. It could still be quite chilly as he hides his Easter eggs this year. You, however, can keep your tootsies warm while watching the young ones hunt down their hidden treasures with a cute pair of fuzzy bunny slippers.

Do you hide the Easter baskets too? My parents would and it would get progressively harder to find the older we got. I couldn't find mine for several days one year. Though that's not as bad as the year we couldn't find one of the eggs (even the Easter bunny forgot where he hid it). Our noses finally located it several weeks later. Thankfully, neither of these items will stink—both will bring nothing but happy smiles and giggles! The Webkinz duck is appropriately soft and cuddly, while the bathtub duck swims, quacks and sprays water from his head!

All the dyed eggs, ducklings, and rabbits have deeper meanings as symbols of spring and new life. Easter, as most everyone knows, is the Christian holiday celebrating Christ's resurrection after his crucifixion. We have two beautiful items (among others, be sure to browse our site) that will be the highlight of any Easter day gifts. The bracelet is a classy keepsake and an inspirational way to wear your faith. And as a perfect reminder of the divine grace that this holiday represents, the Amazing Grace throw will keep your body (and spirit) warm.

Check Your Calendar: St. Patrick's Day is Coming Up!

Do you find people still pinch you if you're not wearing green on St. Patrick's Day? Ouch! To avoid that fate this year, be sure to stock up now on the best St. Patrick's Day gear.

It's perfect timing for this adorable green "Lucky Dog" Snoopy T-shirt thanks to Uno the beagle and his groundbreaking "Best in Show" win at Westminster this year. You don't need to be Irish (or a dog) to be lucky! The "I'm not Irish but I'm hoping to get lucky" T-shirt is a sly way to make people think twice about just what you mean. And it's our exclusive so you won't find it anywhere else!

For anyone who's been planning this year's celebrations since last year, make sure they get to be the center of attention wearing this can't-miss hat with blinking shamrocks (plus matching bow tie). And be sure you're prepared to toast and lead your friends into a hearty Irish drinking song! The pocket-sized Irish Drinking Companion also includes traditional Irish drink recipes and hangover cures.

While St. Patrick's Day tends to get associated with green beer and great parades, it is also traditionally a day for spiritual renewal and prayer. The tree of life depicted on this beautiful porcelain pendant is an ancient symbol, in Celtic and many other cultures worldwide, of the link between Heaven and Earth.

However you choose to celebrate, have fun and be safe. To paraphrase an Irish blessing: May you always have laughter to cheer you and those you love near you.

Super Party, Super Bowl

Super Bowl parties (not to mention the actual game) can be the stuff of legends. I certainly had a memorable experience this year, as you'll find out.

I go to the same party every year, and every year my friend amazes me with her preparations and imagination. First, she sent out personalized invitations for the potluck party in which she included a suggested recipe for each of us (which were simple to make and yet extremely tasty, as we all found out). If she hadn't done that, I would have gone rifling through my trusted copy of "What Can I Bring?" cookbook.

And what an array of food there was! My stomach hurts to think about it again. But the showstoppers were the GIANT (no pun intended) cupcakes, each done up in the respective team colors. I won't tell you which one had more fans eating from it.

Another huge hit of the night were the frozen shot glasses that served up shooters for the adults. The women in particular oohed and aahed over the dessert shots served up in frozen chocolate shot glasses, using that same ice mold.

Yet my friend didn't forget about the children in attendance. She set up a kid-friendly area for them, with sports-related things to do in case they got bored. The wireless interactive games like boxing and baseball (played on the TV) turned out to be very popular.

But what made this a Super Bowl Party I'll never forget is the party favor I brought home…a broken rib! Completely unintentional, it happened during some typical Floridian poolside shenanigans. Though I didn't have my suspicions confirmed by a doctor until a few days later.
But don't worry about me, I can take a ribbing and keep on ticking.

Valentine's Day: Make It Delightful!

You can have a lot of fun with Valentine's Day, making anyone feel loved and appreciated (including yourself—you deserve extra attention too!). Here's a quick list of gift suggestions for men and women, kids and grandparents, and everyone in between.

Webkinz are super popular right now with kids, and this adorable (and available only for a short time)
Love Frog is sure to be a huge hit with the little one(s) in your life.

Chocolates are a favorite to give and receive, but not always so great for our hips or diets! Give your Valentine a different sweet treat with this melt-your-heart
Precious Moments™ couple that comes tucked inside a heart-shaped "candy" box.

Fresh flowers are nice, but I know I always feel sad when it's time to toss out the wilted bouquet. Here's a
necklace that has a real rose petal preserved within an acrylic heart. It's a loving gesture that lasts much longer than a couple of days.

Got a group of close-knit friends or office pals? Here's a neat tip. Get a set, like the
M&M's® Love Bunch, and split it up, giving them out individually to your friends based on what personality they match up with! Are they a flirty Green, amorous Red, or a smooth Blue?

Have a movie-marathon with your partner (watch their favorites, of course!) snuggled up on the couch in these ultra-comfy
footed red pajamas. You can always get a little frisky later with the Naughty Knot. Va-va-voom!

The Presidential Primary Parade

Now there's no political agenda here—We're called The Lighter Side for a reason. We appreciate a good chuckle no matter what side of the political fence it's coming from. So with that in mind let's check out some of the latest political memorabilia possibly destined to be the next hot item on Ebay or even a future Antiques Roadshow showpiece!

The political scene is on fire as the presidential primaries heat up. Study up on it with this deck of cards full of humorous non-partisan illustrations casting today's most popular pundits and politicians as characters from feature films. I'm sure, for example, that the $400 John Edwards spent on a haircut helped him land the "role" as model Derek Zoolander.

Red-hot campaign collectibles include these U.S. dollar coins with a colorized portrait of Hillary or Obama added to the face. Which politician would you prefer to have in your pocket?
If you know someone who tends to get a little, shall we say, frustrated with our government, they'll appreciate a Hillary or George W. toilet brush. It may be the first time they smile while scrubbing the royal throne!

Our politically-themed gifts are always fun to give, particularly when you're doing it to tease a good-natured opponent (If you're not sure how they'll react, I suggest standing out of their throwing range.) One gift that should appeal to either side is the Hillary Clinton nutcracker. She's tough-as-nails and will bust your "nuts" to prove it. (And I know I wouldn't mind people saying I had legs of steel. Or abs. Well, you get the point.)
You just never know what other zingers I'll turn up during my hunts for memorable gifts. Check back soon!
